I have just bought a secondhand sv650 2004 model. I am a fairly new rider also but I tried riding some friends bikes and it seems the hadling on my bike is really different. The other bikes I rode were a Honda VTR1000 SP1 and a Honda VFR400 - both these bikes felt a lot more stable than mine ie firm on the road, leaning into/out of corners was easier etc. Then I jump back on mine and it feels wobbly and a bit 'loose'. My friend who ownes the SP rode my bike and said the same.
I wanted to ask anyone's opinion on the handling? Is it just me or does anyone else think the same? Cheers ![]() |

SV handling should be great on your smooth roads.
Have you checked all the obvious stuff ? Tyre pressures, tyre condition, steering bearings, wheel bearings, wheel alignment, engine mount nut / bolt torque (especially the nut behind the gear linkage) and checked for crash damage? Any of these can give you the feeling you describe Alan

I agree, my first SV handled brilliantly, it could be chucked around with confidence, but this one doesnt feel as stable. I have checked tyre pressures etc & the only thing I can put it down to is the tyres themselves.
They were brand new Bridgestones which I havent ridden on before, so it could be that. I also dropped the preload on the rear shock which helped a little, so you could try that.

Suspensino set up for your weight, when I first got mine the factory setting were in place, so I adjusted the forks and rear shock and its much more stable now, it used to wallow and bounce around corners so to speak

I would check the tyres and rear spring if I was you, see if the air in them is correct and that the spring is not to hard or to soft. Depending on your miles the front forks might need the oil changed, but I would be looking at the simple stuff first.
