Hi people, first post here, ive been looking at some sv s amongst others as a next bike.I have owned loads of bikes over the years, mainly 600 sports IL4S,but got fed up with the peaky power,so i bought a drz 400 with some sm wheels for a bit of on/off road fun.I love the dr and will probably keep it for green laning, but i find it underpowered for general road use(great for town though)The idea of a 650 twin appeals to me as i like the low down grunt of the drz,i just need a lot more of it.. ?What i want is a comfortable bike capable of cruising at 90+ on the motorway with power left for overtaking, decent acceleration, decent on the twisties and reasonable maintenance costs.Basically i want everything for next to nothing,LOL,is the sv650 for me?or will i be disappointed after riding the fours for years?your thoughts please.thanks.

I've just moved from a Fazer 600 to a naked SV650. Absolutely love it. I too have a DRZ with SM wheels, and for me, the SV has all the good points from the Fazer and the DRZ in one bike.
The only downside is the shorter service intervals, but if you're happy to do this yourself, not a problem. |

a good early SV will cost £1500. that gets you almost 70 bhp, almost 140 mph (ok, maybe near 130), a comfy but sporty riding position (if you get the S version), a comfy perch for a pillion (if you take them), a bullet proof engine (SV's clocking up over 130,000 miles without many hitches is not uncommon), dependable handling, easy on consumables (chain, tyres) and a great sound if you got a race can
![]() My SV, even restricted, is a ruddy usable bike. I can't wait to get full power ![]() What sort of money are you looking to spend? Matt |

I bought a new one at the end of March - and still running it in LOL! (not commuting at the moment and still use me 125 Scooter a lot).
My first "Big" bike for around 10 years - I bought the SV because I wanted a bike that would not shred my licence (or me!).....now and again though I do wish I had bought something bigger (another thou'....... +??!), simply for the lazy power - I do miss the buzz from accelaration past 80+.......but these feelings are exactly why I bought the SV!! The Scooter will be dissapearing / dying! - sooner rather than later leaving me with the SV. Will I keep it? Not 100% sure.....I am thinking of getting another Scooter ![]() The SV is a very good and fun bike, and greater than the sum of it's parts - and I love the V twin (my first!), but......... |

I have both a 600 IL4 and an SV. the 4 is better as a long distance motorway tool (its not a crazy race rep) but the SV is much more fun. Not sure if I could pick one over the other. The SV feels a bit cheap - but then it is cheap to buy so its swings and roundabouts really. I think its a great bike for the money and pleanty quick enough to keep me enertained. with the amount of cameras about today, I dont really wat a bike that will do 150 in the blink of an eyelid!
