Default To All who have written a disertation..

you have my sympathy..

I am sat here at now 2.53 assisting my fiance with the compalation of her disertation,

not only has this dissertation consumed approximatly 3 months suply of coffee, but we have used 600 gw of computer power....6.8 trees worth of paper and enough Ink to flood most of the south cost... but I dont even understand it.....

I have also spent the best part of an hour or so trying to undelete a temporary word file..... alass to no avail... some ppl learn the hard way (not kitten btw)

Im so very proud of her though for keeping going... and to get to this point, we both know it will be worth it,,, eventually.

Im tired now.... and i need my sleep..

Oh yes, the evil dissertation / project report write up.

I didn't find mine too hard, but I wrote mine as I went along and as I did each bit of work. But then mine was a project, and not a disseration.

Whats she doing the dissertation for?

Matt

15000 words of hell.

I still have nightmares where I dream I'm trying to complete my dissertation or I have one last exam to do

To be honest I quite enjoyed my dissertation. To me it was an excuse to spend a couple of months reading (and I really enjoy my reading), and just writing waffle.
Saying that, I don't thimk i really took the dissertation (or any of the rest of my studies for that matter) very seriously. I knew every report/project was just hypothetical and so it just didn't seem proper work

Everyone else thought i was wierd like.

Oooh just realised this is my hundreth post!

I was a bit unbothered by my dissertation and final year project. As above, it wasn't really "real" was the way I thought of it.

I spent a lot of time:
  • Watching Thomas the Tank engine videos I'd bought cheap off eBay
  • Drinking the guest ales at the local pub beer garden by the canal from 3pm til 11
  • Working at ASDA over the weekend and any weekday overtime I could get, and spending the earnings the weekend before
  • Playing Settlers III repeatedly over a homemade LAN (Health and Safety had nothing on my cabling work when we rented a place)
That said, helping the girlfriend write hers, that was pretty much like a living hell.

Paper jams, Word crashes, clippy asking if he can help, "why wont this line up", "I'm sick of this now" and "right I dont care, I'm dropping out" and "I don't even understand this piece I've just written" were just a few events I've not been able to force out of my mind.

Keep up the good work, you Samaritan.

PS - at the end of it I felt like I'd done the degree too, if that helps.

morning all

Im still not well coupled with lack of sleep and bosses that confuses the **** out of me... (im working from home whilst poorly to get Something done).
any way

Its a Psychology Disseratation but its a nasty nasty report including interviews transcriptions, and psychology is a VERY picky subject interms of how you write things,

When i did my Building servies course you coudl write stuff on the back of fag packets and still get it marked..

hey ho...

blimey... 4 hours sleep eh...

Ah, I completly completly sympathise! Maria had to write one of those, as she did psychology too They are very picky, and they want you to be absolutly definate of what you state. Problem with psychology is that everything is refutable, so you have to argue well in order for your ideas to have any kind of backbone

Best of luck with it; I'm glad I did an easy degree and not psychology!

Just been through that myself. My girlfried is doing exams for her job and has no time to do the corrections herself. Cue lots of swearing at word. Lets face it. Word sucks big time.

Next time I am using LaTex!
