Unhappy nakerd SV?

so lately my tick over has been slightly erratic so today i decided to lift up the tank and have a peek, pulled off the airbox and had a butchers at the carbs, i already had a feeling that it was the choke plungers but i've not got the space at the mo to start looking at them.

started her up, put my hands over the carbs, it cut out bla bla bla, so i put the airbox back on and fired her up again and put hand over the hole lift off before she cut out then after about 20 secs she started smoking , it looked like steam but its about 20C outside so i shut it off, smoke slowly trickling out the end of the can, checked the oil started her back up and she still smoking, gently blipped the throttle but only a tiny amount and still smoky

i don't understand i last rode her last night and she was fine, no smoke, pulling fantastically, no odd knocks or bangs, starts fine. only 12500 miles on it and i last serviced it 2000 miles ago and I've not needed to add oil or anything since.

well white'ish, it looks like steam but it certainly aint, if it is oil then is a very very light blue but to me it looks nothing like blue

also not smoking as much as it was earlier, only noticeable when you give it a big blip and when its shut off but hardly any smoke now

If it's oil then it'll smell like oil.

Then again some wierdness with the airbox off is hardly unexpected as it'll be running lean.

Putting your hand over the carb to check the chokes aren't stuck isn't foolproof, they can stick just a little so they're giving fuel but no air.

Isn't white smoke indicative of head gasket? Have you checked the water for oil contamination is the underneath of the oil filler cap creamy like mayonnaise.

Ok open the rad cap with cold engine and see if the coolant looks normal, check for excess emulsion in the oil.

well I've just taken it for a small gentle jaunt as its running fine, need to let it cool down but the oil is its usual colour and state.

is there a possibility that it might just be a odd one off thing that happened?
