Default Subframe material.

Hi everyone. Ive done a bit of digging over the web and on here and cant find anything about what material is used in the subframe construction.

Some seem to think its ally and some think its steel?

Any ideas as I have to do a bit of chopping and welding to make my new seat unit fit properly. And to save a bit of weight.

Cheers.

judging by the composition of most suzuki components i'd say it's likely to be made of cheese...

Yeah definately made of cheese. The bits I didnt need didnt take much to remove. Its a GSXR 600 K4 seat unit. I need to take off the lower cross beam as it interfears with the top of the unit and weld on a replacement on the underside.

Blast
Mine's a K4. Sure enough ive just done the obvious thing and put a magnet to it... Sure enough its aluminum. Does anyone have any advice on ally welding as ive heard its a lot trickier, with the melting point of it being so much lower.

a ryt i had the older model race seat unit on my k4 sv and i didnt need 2 do anything at all 2 the sub-frame all i done was make 2 small L shap brakets for mounting it at the front then at the rear the seat unit i got was fibreglassed in below so bolted straight on 2 the bottom of the sub-frame where ther is 2 threded holes.

the seat unit you have will have the we hump wher the pillion seat would be isnt that ryt?where the one i had didnt but apart from that ther very near the same.
