Sorry, it's another one of these threads I'm afraid.
I'm in a bit of a strange situation now, I have (& love!) the SV but due to a combination of circumstances am toying with a new bike (but keeping the SV). Basically, my car's started playing up with, potentially, a very costly fault, at exactly the same time that I've just moved 40 miles closer to work and no longer need it. I'm stuck between trying to sell the car whilst not ripping anyone off that buys it (I've too much of a Conscience to lie to a potential buyer about the car!) or just trade it in for a bike. Needless to say in current stricken financial climes I've not had an awful lot of interest in the car, so it's looking more & more like the Trade In option. My problem is I'm completely torn as to what to buy. It's got to be something 'better' than the SV, or else there's no point in buying anything. Now, whether by 'better' that means 'faster' or 'comfier' or even just 'more practical' I don't know yet! Do I go for a face-tearing sports bike, like an R6 or GSXR, or something comfier for any proper mile-munching, like a VFR or something. I should probably point out that there is a rather nice looking 2001 plate R6 at the dealers down the road which has caught my eye, but I've a nagging doubt that I might be biting off more than I can chew having only passed my test last September... I'm not sure what I'm hoping to gain from this rambling, I suppose it maybe just needed to come out of my head and be written down so I can start to make sense of it myself! |

I kept my SV when I got my GSXR with the view to using the SV as a winter hack. I never rode the SV once I had the GSXR, theres nothing wrong with the SV it just didnt feel as fun to ride as the GSXR did.
If I were you I'd go further, get rid of the SV and the car, get a sports bike if you want one and then get a pushbike to commute to work on. That way all your miles on your motorbike will be fun ones and you'll get a bit fitter into the bargain. Also you'll save on tax and insurance by not running a 2nd bike. This works especially well if like me your commute to work is short, mine is 2.1 miles.

My commute's more like 10 miles each way, (mostly uphill on the way there I might add, I have enough trouble motivating my ass out of bed in the morning, that wouldn't help!!) but it could very easily end up back to 40+ each way in the next few months.
There's also the high chance the the missus will be sitting her test soon and will be looking for something bigger than her wee CG125, that's where my SV would come in quite nicely and I'll use the CG for commuting on. As for the sports bike, I think that's my problem in a nutshell - I don't know what I want!! I love the idea of a proper sports bike, but I've a feeling I'd end up moaning about being uncomfortable etc on it, and no doubt they're not much fun for touring on. Maybe I need a range of bikes to suit my mood, where's that winning glottery ticket when I need it?! Last edited by JamesMio; 17-06-08 at 02:41 PM. |

I'm 6ft and I find my GSXR more comfy than my SV was.

Im biased here, but what about a daytona 650, fast as you need, fantastic midrange, bags of power, all day comfort, fairly relaxed riding position, certainly no worse than me old curvey and handles like a dream, go on, just do it, you know you want too

+ you will also notice that your abs and back muscles get bigger on the sports bikes as you have to carry your own weight a little more (my gf is well happy!)
