What are you doing in september?

Just brainstorming an idea here...

The family are planning to go to Italy this september, from the 6th to the 13th. I've always wanted to ride Europe since passing my test and this would present an oppertunity to do an amazing trip down and back, but i'd prefer to do it with a couple of other folks

I guess you'd take the fast catameran from poole or the chunnel and work your way down from there, on google maps it's about 1120 miles via the chunnel from southampton to umbertide, which is on the umbria/tuscany border

i'd imagine you'd need to have about 3 weeks available, one to get down, one down there doing whatever you want and one to get back, the scenery in umbria is just stunning, this'll be the 4th or 5th time we've been back and the little hilltop place i'd be going to is very peaceful. when i get home i'll see if i can dig out some old photos

you could either ride on down through italy or try to find somewhere close to the place we'd be staying, it's called borgo bastia creti if you wanted to look it up and see if it's somewhere you'd like to stay, or just ride off somewhere else and i could make my own way home

So, there it is, anyone interested? liek i said just an idea right now but could form something awesome

Out of curiosity, If you ride, would you just meet your family off the plane in Italy or what???

unfortunately the trip was cancelled this evening, found out my mum has early breast cancer so not likely to happen this year unless things go remarkably smoothly in surgery...

the plan would have been to ride down to the actual place we'd have stayed, up in the hills, then spend a week sitting by the pool doing nothing then working our way back up, taking just what you need for a week on the road and sending the rest tucked in the family bags for the week down there...

Oh, thats a shame. Sorry to hear about your mum as well, hope she gets well soon.
