Default Gear lever adjustment?

Im assuming the gear lever can be adjusted up and down, but cant seem to see it in the manual or figure it out. I've just got a new set of boots and cant seem to bet my foot under the lever to change up very easily.

Any help greatly appreciated.

loosen the bolts at either end of the rod and twist the rod to raise or lower the pedal. remember one bolt has a reverse thread. Tighten the bolts when happy, or it changes position when you're riding.
