Post Underseat storage on a pointy and security

Hi guys, just passed my DAS last thursday and am putting my car up for sale this week to raise the funds to buy my first bike. I'm pretty set on a pointy SV650 as it seems to tick all the right boxes. One bit of information I cant seem to find though is much about the underseat storage. Has anyone got a picture to show me of how big the storage area is?

Also, I will be riding the bike to work, is the storage on the pointys large enough for a decent chain, for example the ABUS city X-Plus 1060. What do you guys use to secure your bikes when you are out and about? I was thinking of using a chain like the one mentioned and maybe an alarmed Xena Disc lock, what you guys think? If the SV I buy is not alarmed and immobilised I will get one fitted also.

thanks in advance for your input

Not much room under the pillion seat, especially with the wiring etc. I think there's a pic on here somewhere of the space (might have been one of the tail tidy threads).

I doubt you'd get a decent size chain in, however I've got an Oxford disc lock that fits in no problem and there's still room for other small items (say wallet-sized).

I got my pointy 2 weeks ago and it's the absolute dogs....trying to fit a Stebel Nautilus horn as the stock horn is a) weak and b) tends not to work after about 20mins riding (due to it being slap bang behind the rad and getting too hot).

I decided against an alarm/immobiliser as it didn't reduce my insurance by much and would rather spend the £250 on mods (airflow screen, crash bungs, scott oiler etc). I'm using mine to commute (approx. 100 miles per day) although it is garaged at work and at home it's on the path but with an Oxford Stormex cover (came cheap and with free Oxford disc lock from Nightingales on Ebay) and an Oxford hard core chain/lock (which was free with subscription to Bike mag).

Enjoy the bike!

There's plenty of space under the pointy pillion seat for a chain. I used to lug mine around in there, and on a trip to Brands for WSB, I fitted 2 in there (big ones too ). Made the bike shake it's head quite a lot over bumps though.

I do have a picture, but it's an old one and would scare most fully qualified auto-electricians - so I'm reluctant to post it.

Personally, I don't bother with a chain/disc lock, but then, I live in the middle of no-where. My bike is alarmed though, with imobiliser, and the alarm is wired to the horn (which isn't stock...) for a bit more volume.

I paid £30 for my alarm/imobiliser setup - granted I had to wire it to the bike myself, and mod it suitably to act as an imobiliser, but it's saved the bike at least once!

On the subject of space under the pillion seat... I have the fuse box, alarm, first aid kit & puncture repair kit under my pillion seat. The trick is to fit a tail tidy, and then the hooks that the fuse box sits on aren't there any more. Next move the fuse box forwards so that it's more under the rider seat than the pillion one.

Don't have any modern pics though unfortunately.

I guess I'm still treating my new bike delicately and don't want to risk knackering the fuse wiring or scratching anything by putting stuff in there.......give it time and I'm sure I'll be packing the space out with chains etc!

Thanks for the replies guys two conflicting views tho ... tried looking for a pic on here for ages last night but couldn't find any, nor any on google! Think they have a brand new pointy at the local JTs, maybe I will pretend I am interested in buying and ask them if I could have a little lookie under there

100 miles a day and it won't be new for long.

I did exactly the same. I suggest you:
1) Fit tail tidy.
2) Move fuse box.
3) Consider a Rentec rack to increase space off the rear of the pillion seat.
4) Do not, I repeat do NOT consider a top-box. Otherwise we'll have to point & laugh.
