in terms of buying insurance, what do you admit to changing on the bike?? ive got mainly cosmetic differences, diffrerent rear end, soon different forks and swingarm, so the only thing origional will be the frame and engine. engine has had some work done, but nothing major. is it worth saying youve made these changes or leave it as standard??
what have you done? |

declare everything...no matter how small....they will do anything possible to get out of paying you..."sorry mr....ur 3k bike has been stolen...we have recovered it...but u didnt tell us u had R&G crash bungs on there...ur insurance is void".....you what?????????/
unless u just want insurance on the bike so that those pesky number plate camera dont catch u riding an uninsured bike.( u know...say if u had 6 convictions dr10's etc and couldnt afford full premium...errrrr......then declare nothing..u will never be able to make a claim and could face prison.....maybe...but dont give them a reason to stop you hence dont declare everything when booking insuranc online....those scanner cameras then show the bike as insured and u wont get stopped..unless ur riding like a tosspot....) ive said too much.......declare everything mate |

declare performance mods-eg enigine tuning, most insurance co will only replace aftermarket parts with o/e in the event of a accident anyway, but i dclared all my svs's mods and got ?100 back for them when i had my accident

Declare everything. Getting them to pay out following an accident where you're at fault with the sort of mods you're talking about will be exceedingly difficult if you've kept quiet about them.

see the problem im worried is that the fact that the insurers will raise my premium, even though ive made it technically a safer bike, with better handling, better braking etc. yea ok, there are a couple of power mods but only worth about 5-8 horsepower. any specialist insurers out there who deal with altered bikes??

Hmmm, I wouldn't try that line. Yes if you rode in exactly the same manner as before you've made it "safer" in that you could stop in a shorter distance, get round that corner despite an unforeseen obstacle...but what you've actually done is make it so you can brake later and harder, go round that corner faster...if most people are honest with themselves they don't upgrade the bike like that so they can ride in exactly the same way and have that "little bit extra in reserve".
