Default OIl Leak!

Hello all, just got a '99 SVs going after it had been stood for 7 years. Its only done 1400 miles so is in 'like new' condition apart form a few scrapes where the previous owner came off (and he has never ridden since!).

It runs great but there's a leak from somewhere round the water pump housing on the clucth cover. Before I start dismantling, I wondered if anyone has had a similar leak and give me any pointers as to the possible cause?

Thanks,

Jim.

i take it you mean the cover on the right hand side of the engine.
the smallest one is made of plastic and is known to warp. buy a new one from suzuki with a new sealing ring, sorts it strait away. other than that go for an aftermarket one, theres a few about.

mine did the same, think it quite common some people get away with just a new seal. mine was simila r mileage toyours and mine had a new cover (Suzuki) and has been fine ever since. good luck!1

The plastic clutch cover on curvys should be torqued to, I think, 10Nm or something pretty light.

I could check a Haynes manual later.

But it's pretty likely that retightening the bolts to the correct spec will sort your leak.

Thanks chaps! I've done some searching on here and it seems it maybe the water pump oil seal and it does appear to be coming from the water pump cover so I'll take that off and have a look inside! Maybe as its been standing for so liong, the seal has perished/dried out?

Anyhow, I'm off to ther Manx on Sunday so I'll just have to go on me rattly old vtec!!
