Uses for a PPC G4 Mac?
I inherited an Apple Mac computer. I already have top end laptop for video editing and a deskptop PC running emulators for all my retro games.
The model I've been given is not online, but is the coolest looking thing I've seen in ages. It's the desk lamp model.  I now just have to find a use for it. What do you think? |

Internet? General being the coolest computer? I have a 5 year old G5 which is still by far the best computer I have ever used. I have only had one issue with it and that was a graphics card failing. Quick and cheap fix. As you can tell I am a huge Mac Fan and will never ever buy a PC.

Use it as a browsing computer, I have a macbook and a g4 powerbook 17", the g4 is now very old and in need of a new keyboard, I use it mainly for storage, downloading and playing music at night.

I got it for nothing and I'm not keen on spending any money on it to get it online (it doesn't have an Airport card), not when I have 3 other methods of online access in the house.
I just wondered if anyone could suggest any creative uses for it. What I reckon will happen is that I'll give in to the pressure to swap for my mate's 3 year old laptop. He's went on about it since I got it. |

Get a usb wifi device and hack it into the system (for about £5) then use it as a RSS feed reader in the kitchen as you have breakfast/for recipes - you wanted a unique use for it!

What's the processor spec in it? If it's over 1Ghz and has at least 1GB of ram, whack Logic Pro on there and get making some music
 My brother's crappy old G4 mac mini is still holding up surprisingly well doing just that - i've had over 20 audio tracks running simultaneously with no hold-ups, and that's with a whole load of plug-ins and only 512mb of ram! |
