Anyone got any idea about how to adjust out bar wobbles with full on acceleration? ITs a cbr600 with adjustable everything. Started on all standard settings, and after the wobbles I upped the rear preload which seemed to help but made the back a bit stiff and unable to track larger bumps. It feels like the rear is squatting under load and hence the front is coming up too much and the wobbles begin. Any ideas what I could try adjusting next? Tyres all good. Just wondered. Any advice appreciated

Steering damper....problem solved, although it does sound odd, never read or heard of people having a wobble problem on a cbr600, just lean forwards when accelerating.
It could be something more underlying depending on the age of the bike if bearings etc are going. Messing with your compression/rebound/preload wont do anything except mess up the way the bike corners and travels, you would be best checking in your book and resetting it all to factory default.

I sometimes get a bit of a wobble on the double R under full acceleration, but it never feels like it's gonna turn into a tank slapper. Just ride it out.

You can set the preload by measuring it - there are plenty of guides out there if you search. If it still squats excessively, increase compression damping. |

No way is it a tankslapper, just a gentle wobble L/R on the bars. It's all set as standard now, still does it. It was better with the rear preload upped, but that unsettled it over bumps. Rear compression as was said may help, I assume that'll be the slow compression thingy...or possible worn bearing somewhere. It's only done 13K never used to do it!

Hmmm, does sound like the shock could be losing its damping.
You can give a rough check - stand the bike upright off the stand, hold it (perhaps with some help) and give a good hard push down on one of the pegs with your foot. The bike shouldn't dive too quickly/easily (hard to quantify I know). See how fast it comes back up also. Providing you push hard enough to compress the shock near to the stop, it shouldn't rebound back the the middle too quickly. Much less than 1 second, and you need to up the rebound. |

Adjust the suspension to suit you and your riding, a steering damper only masks the problem it does not cure it.

are your wheels ballanced properly? and the right pressures in your tyres.

It started at the end of one pair of tyres, that's why I got them changed, but has continued onto the new pair despite watching getting them balanced. Pressure are checked and good. I think I'm going to increase the rear compression damping a little and see what happens. Thanks for the ideas though!
