Thumbs up My 1st big bike.

hi everyone, as u can tell i'm new to this site. just been trauling the net as i've just bought my sv650s 2day and dont think i'll be able to sleep until mon or tues when i pick it up from the garage. passed my test 3wks ago on the restricted license, so its having the kit fitted asap, but i dropped it off 2day and said they wont have the kit until mon. paying 180 for kit supplied and fitted with cert. asked everyone i know who's into bikes and didn't no if i needed it certified and everything, but keep getting told different answers. heard its a topic for debate.
my bikes on an 02 reg, 8k on the clock, givi top box, alpha dot and meta sytems fitted, fully faired, stands included, etc in really top condition. paid 1600 plus my gf's old p reg corsa. was this a good deal? bin told by some its a gr8 deal and some1 it wasn't. what u guys reckon? seen a few others but they needed work but this one is mint.
just cant wait to pick it up and test it out. does having the restrictor kit make a big difference? again heard different things, most say i wont notice a difference unless i'm tryin to race, which i defo wont be doin. then had others saying the bike will be awful, dont know what to believe. any advice would be gr8.

Welcome to the forum, this is a great place to be.

Congratulations on the new bike. I'm sure you will love it.

I am also on a restricted licence but the SV650 still goes well so I wouldn't worry, it just tends to run out of steam at around 8K.

Others on here will be able to tell you more.

Enjoy.

Cool Re: my 1st big bike

First off, if the bikes in brill condition id say uv got urself a gd enuf wee deal ther...
and whenu get it as ur first big bike, even though its restricted, ur first impression will be WOW
u will prob get a good wee adrenaline rush rippin it about when u pick it up even at 33bhp... once the time comes to derestrict it tho... ul realise what uv been missin, a restricted sv feels quick enough untill u sample the goods... when u first get it derestricted beware of accidental wheelies and the like
and good choice in general, sv's are awesome bikes, lovely engine and good alround, wether ur lookin a nippy road/race bike or somethin for a bit more cruisin n tourin ul enjoy ur sv no end!!!
i remember the week long wait to pick my 2001 650s up... u def wont sleep much untill about 2 days after u get it enjoy!!!

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but im due to pick up my unrestricted SV650Sport K8 in 1 weeks time and by then I will have about 10-12 hours experience on a CBF500 (and 20 hours on a crappy 125cc), anyway what im wondering (read: worried) about is if there will be much difference between the CBF500 and the SV650, i.e. am i going to try and set off and end up wheeling down the road and ultimately ending up on my ar$e?
Am also slightly worried about not being used to the sports bike riding position.

On the other hand its hard to control the excitement about getting my own bike

Hi HBK, welcome to the site.

Does sound a bit expensive but then I don't know how much a old Corsa is worth.

Alpinestarshero will be happy though as it's got a topbox.

Yours will be a curvy for future reference.

Pics please as soon as you can.

nah generally the sv's arnt a supersport position, u can sit reasonably upright on it, just itl hav lower bars than your used to, its not a big problem just mayb sore wrists for a few days if u use it continuously
and once u get used to cornering n all on it ul love it to bits (last bike was a wee dt125R with the semi-dirt tyres n highrise bars, i thought that was fun to chuck into corners till i bought my curvy )
and the accidental wheelies arnt a problem, especially not in the newer bikes which seem to have less power when all their parts are stock, my sk1 curvy will wheelie in 1st gear if i open the throttle reasonably fast and it has been known to decide to pop one up as i shift into 2nd also however my mate asked me to try and wheelie his k7 (im a wheelie maniac il try it on anything) and i cudnt at all, i was literally jumping on it and slippin the clutch and it wasnt doing anything special... no matter what model of sv u hav bought though if ur smooth on the throttle ul be fine! theyr dead easy to control once you get smooth with the bike... your gona love it!!!
