Default My SV's peeing oil :(

Me again....
Did an oil & filter change the other day, noticed it was going down a bit, there was a drip on the new oil filter so I've tightened that up. But today I noticed it's gone down again (and a little stain underneath the bike) and the oil drop bolt is wet and also the oil filter still looks a bit greasy and both have stains all round them. Do I need a new washer for the bolt or something and if the oil filters still leaking does that mean I've bust the seal
Thanks

Numpty

The filter can be done up hand tight (I always do!) SO give it a bit more of a squeeze. The sump bolt uses a crush washer (copper?) and sometimes you need to replace that (there is only so much they can be crushed to form the seal I suppose)

Are thre any other area's that you might be leaking oil from? I used to have an oil leak from my clutch cover

Been racing all year, done probably 6 Oil+Filter changes now. The only time it slightly weapt was from the filter and that was because I forgot to smear a little oil over the seal. I have never replaced the copper washer either. I'd just advise wiping it clean, then going for a little ride then check on it.

I did my change on Saturday and noticed I had an aluminium washer on my sump bolt . The nut had dug in and formed a lip in the washer , so I flipped it over and put the lip up against the bottom of the sump and installed the bolt to the correct tightness . The lip created a seal against the bottom of the sump and I have had no leaks . Just a small tip for the Org

I smeared oil on the new filter did it up hand tight but it was slippy so gave it half a turn with a ratchet - maybe I overtightened it originally?
The bolts definitely constantly wet so I think I'll have a go at replacing the washer see if that helps

When I installed the oil filter I wound it in hand tight , then grabbed it with one hand and gave it a good tweak by hand and no more , has been fine since .

What some people do is leave the old rubber oil filter washer on, so you have in effect two thick seals and they might then allow an oil leak. Don't think you can overtighten the filter as when I 1st used to do mine a manual said to do it up hand tight and then 2 full rotations with a socket Man was that difficult to do Dunno what they were thinking.

Half a turn used to do for mine.

The latest Honda filters I got even have a sticker on saying "Make sure old O-Ring is removed".

Clean the bike up with degreaser, then take it for a ride. The oil will leave a trail and you will be able to identify where it is coming from.

Sounds like the crush washer on the sump bolt may need replacing at some point also, you don't have to do this after every oil change but after a time it starts to wear.
