Default What's up with the ignition?

pretty much, im stumped...........since about a week ago the bike has a nice habit when going to start it (in neutral, side stand up, clutch pulled in, choke on full) there is no noise what so ever then at any random point in time it wills tart to fire up, im guessing there is a connection fault somewhere?? no idea where if its even that, so does anyone have any odeas and pointers for me???

cheers
Ash

clutch or sidestand switch

check the 2 wires underneath the clutch lever, you can bypass the switch with a bit of wire

You haven't mentioned the kill switch, this might need a clean out as it has been known for crap to get in there. If it is not the kill switch you can bypass the clutch and side stand switch by joining the two wires toghether, they are only idiot devices.

Clutch switch. The sidestand switch is not effective when the bike is in neutral.

Or kill switch possibly, but that would probably give you running issues too.

I would say cross the clutch switch, but also check the orange with a white tracer for dirty contacts as it connects through 2 points on the front loom before it goes back to the coils on the main loom.

My killswitch likes to do this sometimes. Usually when im going to start her, and a quick wiggle of the assembly followed by a few smacks usually sorts it out, but it has happened twice mid corner! Have cleaned it out but should really give it a bit more attention now that you've reminded me..

Could this be the starter relay not powering up properly?Maybe just a weak battery.

Say possibly weak battery, but usualy if is that week then it wont fire up.

Possably the starter needs some maintenance as it could be having a weak contact.

Work out, if when you press the starter with the clutch in, do you hear a click then afterwards it turns over? If you do then start looking at the starter itself, if not then look at the button and clutch switch.

Have you got heated grips or the like on the bike? I used to have an issue where if i had them the added thickness on the clutch bar and it would not start unless i really pulled the clutch in.
