Default Why did I buy a chain?

When I bought a (security) chain for my bike I didn't realise how much space there was for it under the seat. Therefore, I bought a short one to keep the weight down believing I'd be carrying it in a backpack.

It's so short though, that I rarely lock my bike to anything because it's such a hassle positioning it close enough, and therefore just put the chain through my wheel.

I've just realised that the chain does nothing a disc lock can't do. What is the point in making/selling short chains then?

Stops it being picked up and chucked in a van. Well, slows it down a bit anyway.

a 1.5 Metre chain is about the smallest , best , all round solution . I can get one of them , a puncture kit , petrol syphon and tool kit under my K3 seat .

My Almax is only used when I'm at home cos even carrying it in a back pack hurts my back in about a min. They're so damn heavy!!!

The way I figure it bundling a motorbike into a van has got to be planned so the likely hood of it happening is slim when you leave it in town or outside a pub for an hour or so.

xXBadgerXx once you get an Almax look into an Anti-Pinch Pin. It lets you secure your bike through the frame and you can get away with a shorter chain.

except when the admin of www.ktmforum.co.uk had his 560SMR stolen (the 2nd time) it was secured with an almax and pinch pin, and the pinch pin was the weak link that enabled it to be stolen

How was it stolen? What did the people do to the pin to make it useless?

iirc they angle ground the pin, a rep from almax was on the forum asking for advice about the theft as it was the first they were aware of where compromising the almax was the reason the bike got nicked.

Just took delivery of my almax series 4 the other day (2.5m long!). The thing is so damn heavy it would require an extra thief just to carry the chain and lock!

On a more serious note, it definitely looks the business and im sure no one is going to get through it without one hell of a struggle.

Also is it safe to lock it to a lampost? I would think that it is because it would not be easy to remove a lampost (and near impossible to cut through without getting electricuted!)! But i have heard of people removing street signs just to steel motorbikes!
