ok i got to go out and play all day today and what blooooody good fun it was.
i'm finally getting to grips with the handling of the sv, this engine breaking malarky was doing my nut in. but i think i'v cracked it (used to riding 2 strokes), and my lordy lord its its the most fun i have had in a loooooong time. the grip just does not stop, i'm down to and starting to encompass the storm logo on the avons. but enough of that... my question is.. has anybody experienced their bike not wanting to go down the box.. its like the gear pedal is all sloshy with nothing there.. and it wont select gears.. it only happens once in a while and mainly when riding at 70 for quite a long time then slowing down for dual carriageway exits or roundabouts. its fine when i get to a stop. then knock it down from there. the bike has had it first service last week. it done it before the service but i forgot to mention it when it was in. should i be worried? |

Do not worry about it , The Sv Lump is a solid beast . I had this recently with blipping on downchanges and finding false neutrals .... was a touch too much oil on my sump . I had the same thing when approaching a fast stop and snicking down 2 or 3 gears at a time before letting the clutch out . I do it one at a time or 2 tops and it`s fine . I`m sure somebody has a better explanation of this as Jack Daniels has confuddled my head

If it happens then find Neutral when at a stop , It won`t find neutral so easy , so let clutch out in that gear then pull it in when it bites and snick neutral in , might take 2 or 3 tries but it`ll happen , and you will get to know when it is going to happen . Eventually you will learn to avoid what causes this and it will be a distant memory ..... then somebody will use the search feature (and fizzwheel will smile at such thoughts) and dredge this thread back up , whereupon I will say "I told you so"

Check the linkage isn't binding. Would be unusual on a new bike but worth checking.

clear the sh!te out from behind the front sprocket cover, thats a usual suspect that adds to dodgy gear changing

Are you letting the lever centre itself?
Any slight pressure on it will prevent this, so there is not enough movement left to engage the next gear. ![]() |

OK start with the basics.
Check Clutch Adjustment Clean, lube and tension chain appropriately Check the oil level in the sight glass and make sure its not over filled. If your still having a problem, and its a 2nd hand bike or one thats been stood for ages. Take the gear lever off and clean up the shaft and also carefully peel the fibre bush off and clean and lubricate that and then put it all back together again. Take care with the fibre bush as you cant buy it on its own and if you bust it you'll have to buy a whole new lever. I wussed out with mine and gave it a good squirt with WD40 and then span it round the shaft till it moved freely and then greased it all up and it was the end of my gear change woes. Having difficult finding neutral when stopped is usually IMHO, either chian tension or the sump is over filled.

On a brand new bike, I'd take that back to the dealer and get them to look at it.
