Exclamation Sticky Throttle on my K8

Yesterday I was riding my SV 650 and it felt like the accelerator cable was sticking open with the throttle closed. First of all I could let go of the throttle and it would carry on like as if it had cruise control, the revs were sticking around 3 thousand revs just on tick over. Changing gear it would jump forward pull in the clutch then the revs would rise then to 6 thousand revs. When I stopped at traffic lights I was letting out the clutch just to try and keep the revs down, thinking that I‘m about to burn out the clutch any moment. On roundabouts it felt like I had no control. When I got it home I called out the breakdown service when they arrived the bike was running fine with no symptoms. I still took it to Suzuki for them to have a look at it but I have to wait till tuesday. Has any one else experienced anything similar with there SV mines only 6 months old with around 2k on the clock! its a Sv650 k8 unfaired

To start with oil your cables, throttle and clutch.

How is the best way to oil the cables? I take it you use something like WD40. I will try it but the cable did seem to move with little resistance I was told it sounds like the secondary accelorator which may be why it did not go over 6k.

+1, it's a K8 and under warranty. A sticking throttle is dangerous in any number of situations, and a K8 definitely shouldn't have that problem.

Let them sort it under warranty. And don't ride it whatsoever, get the dealership to come out in a van & pick it up if they have to.

Fuel injected Suzukis have a sensor that senses what revs the engine is at and then tells the fuel injection and engine management systems to alter. I have been advised by the RAC that it sounds like a faulty sensor. The bike is at the dealers I rode it up last night with the RAC van following me and the bike was fine the whole trip of about 18 miles which was annoying!

still get them to replace it if you can. If the RAC guy came out did he plug up his computer?

Also if it's a K8 don't you get free breakdown with AA for a year?

Check the bar end assembly....I had a similar problem on my K8 a while ago, one minute the throttle was quite loose and then very tight/sticking (or the other way round, can't quite remember). Got home after the ride and the bar end was about to fall out.

The RAC Guy did not plug up his computer he decided because of the age of the bike the dealers should sort it! At this time it seemed to be ok. I think i've got some Suzuki Breakdown cover but I have had RAC cover for over 5 years.

The fault was a sticking linkage caused by the salt on the roads! So its been cleaned and lubricated. Was not covered under warranty. Thanks for your feedback.
