So I have had the SV650 for exactly 2 weeks, and low and behold I drop it. Right in back of my house.
Now it won't start. I have two symptoms. 1. For all I can tell, its the clutch safety switch, as the starter seems to do nothing. 2. When I do put it in 1st, and pull in the clutch, the bike won't move, like the clutch isn't doing anything anymore. Is that possible, or just something I never noticed. Nicholas 2000 SV650 |

i dont think the clutch safty switch would have any thing 2 do with the bike not being free when in gear with clutch in.
do away with the clutch switch and see if you can get it fired up 1st. ![]() |

Right:
So I short the clutch switch in neutral and the bike starts up. Then I hold in the clutch and push to 1st, and the bike jumps. How could I screw up the clutch cable so badly? I can't seen any major bends anywhere. n |

Did you drop it on the left side?If so take off the front sprocket cover and check out the clutch actuating mechanism in there.Something could have got bent.

check the clutch cable under the front sprocket cover, see if it has been knocked or there is somthing wrong at that end as apposed to the lever end.

Yeah, looked there. Didn't see anything weird. I mean I don't really know what is looked like before, but nothing looks like it should "un-bent".
Watched the travel of the clutch release and it definitely looks like its not really engaging the clutch enough, but who knows. Tried adjusting at the lever to get more travel, but that didn't seem to make much difference. n |

may sound stupid nothing preventing the travel of the clutch lever e.g. hotgrips that have rotated round so now preventing clutch being pulled all the way back?
