You have modded your bike to with in an inch of its life but its time for new set of wheels, what would you do and wouldnt do again and why?
For me, i would not cut the tail end off and fit an undertray or fender eliminator just because it serves no real purpose other than consmetic, and your pillion when you take one, gets covered in carp. I probably wouldnt go to the hassle of fitting braided lines either. You do loose the fell, but Vernas brakes on her SV work just as well as mine on my SV. Things i would do, LIghting (Probably a HID kit), Heated grips (Although i dont have these) and a race can of some description and a decent screen and a scotoiler. Things like suspension and brakes are going to be far superior than the SV's for sure, so not worth changing them until you 'get used to them' or listen to otehr people telling you how good it all is! I've done the suspension and the cosmetic parts, a hid kit etc.. The only things I'd like to do can wait til de restriction time- hotter cams and a full system..
This winter, instead of fitting hot grips, I'm going to get some heated gloves ![]() |

R&G sliders every time, and maybe an exhaust.

Suspension mods - my last four bikes have needed new rear shocks to make them rideable for me, so I guess any new bike will get the same treatment.
Heated grips are a definite - my SV will be getting some Daytona ones soon. Lighting - I would simply change the bulbs for Osram Nightbreakers or similar. Hugger - definitely, if one isn't already fitted Exhaust - all depends how much is to be gained from putting a race can on a middleweight. On something like a GSXR1000 I wouldnt bother for the power gains, it'd be purely cosmetic. Braided hoses - I hate the look of cheaply plated original hose fittings corroding when the rest of the bike is clean and rust free, so probably will fit them Scottoiler - Definite, because they work and I'll never buy a shaftie on principle. |

Everything I have done I would do again , better rear shock , hugger , comfort bars , fender extender , bellypan , Magnum Touring Scottoiler , Braided HEL Lines . The one upgrade I wished I had done sooner was the bars and fitted Avon Storms , it would have made my early SV life a lot more enjoyable . I have Oxford heated grips on the bike and lo and behold , first sign of snow today and they have decided to pack in , not even a year old yet

Are they a type of hot grip which doesn't have a retarded button-pressy thing which decides whether it feels in the mood for working or not?
Oh yeah I'd fit a voltmeter too...

I'm not sure what I'd do different, I've worked through the stuff I don't like now so I'm very happy with what's left really. I'd not spray it myself again, that was a mistake... Suppose I'd fit Nitron instead of Ohlins and I'd go straight to good front forks instead of trying all the increments.
If I was buying a new bike just now, none of this'd really apply because it'd be a ground-up custom, probably. That's the only thing that could tempt me away from the SV. If I lost the SV for some reason, I'd build another one very much like it.
