Handguard?

Just got round to fitting my v-strom handguards must say after a half hour blast at high speeds my hands were fine, much better as lately they have been cold when iv made it the 2miles to work.
Only thing is the bolts that came with my kit were to long and the original bolts 2short, managed to get round this by removing the washer inside the handlebar, so the rubber is against the spacer for the handguards.
did i do something wrong? or should i have recd some extra bolts, though the instructions only list the 2 long bolts

Mine were the same.I fitted spacers.You`d think they`d get the length right!
Good mod though.
