Default Non payment of road tax

As if it's not enough that the robbers at the government take a vast amount of money from us that is, allegedly, for road repairs. I've had a letter from them telling me that they are fining me for non payment of road fund licence. The disc in my windscreen and the decreased bank balance would seem to prove that that isn't true. I now have to send them details from my disc to prove that I have it. And its not even a postage paid envelope.
Rant over. Apologies for bending your ears, it's just that there's no one here to shout at.

Dont waste your time. Write back to them and tell them to prove you havnt paid it............

If it goes to court it will be them that looks incredibly stupid when they have to pay all your costs.

Sounds like sense to me. Either that or tell them they are free to come round and examine the disk anytime they choose. Pending actually being in at the time of course.

Be interested to hear where the mistake has been made. They're usually very good with sending out reminders, knowing if your vehicle's mot'd & insured & posting the disc to you. IME

Just hope you're in the right

The only time I have known that happen is if, either the cheque bounced, or you got 12 months tax & only paid for 6 due to a mistake.

A friend was arrested in Dover when he returned with his truck because the cheque had not cleared even though there was money in the account.

Well all is legal with the van, mot, insurance etc. The disc was only a six monther anyway so it can't have been a fault with a six month twelve month mix up and as it was purchased over the counter at the post office I'm guessing it must have been a mistake with their side of it. I can't quite figure out how it would take from the end of August till now to show up. It's a wonder our friends with the blue lights and the number plate recognition systems haven't grabbed me before now. I'm sure the DVLA will be rushing to explain and apologise. D'ya think?

Kitkat had a similar letter last week from the DVLA only difference is that she hadn't paid for her tax as a reminder never came through. Silly thing is the fine was more than 12months tax for the car!!!

Sounds like there may be a spate of this at the mo, guy at work got a letter through because he hadn't taxed his bike, although he bought it from a garage with 12 months tax on and still has six left, that being said he may be unlucky as he's had an NIP thrugh for speeding, dangerous driving, driving without due care and running a red light.

Bike was penned in his garage and he was across the road sitting in his neighbours font room at the time, and it happened at a place he'd never been to.

Nothing in the log at the cop shop either.
