Wine... Where/what to buy.

Looking for a few good ones for my dad.
Pretty much no idea when it comes to wine, I'm after good whites basically.

I know I haven't even specified a budget, but I'll just work it around what gets suggested.

Can anyone suggest a few, and is it worth ordering some off the net?

Begin with White Lightening and progress from there------Or not.

Head to www.laithwaites.co.uk - they are well stocked specialists and I have generally found the staff very well informed. Good whites - cant go wrong with NZ whites. If you can get hold of some Cloudy Bay you are onto a winner.

New Zealand Rieslings are very nice

Good whites - Chablis or Pouilly-Fume are OK if you must do white.

Good reds - I vote Italian. Amarone della Valpolicella, or Barolo. Make sure it's Amarone della Valpolicella and not bog standard Valpolicella - you'll know by the price difference - Amarone is £10 - £15/bottle. Well worth it, too, it's yummy. High alcohol content too so you sink under the table in no time.
