Default Should I just replace the pair?

Looking for opinions. I got a pair of conti road attacks fitted around 8-10k ago and the rear is now neding replaced.

I originally though I'd just replace the rear, hoping to get similar again from the front but I've been quoted the best part of £100 to get a new one (fitted).

I've read a lot on here about avon storms and seen he deal at m and p for £140ish.

What's folks opinions - just get abnother conti and hope the front lasts similar again or replace the pair? Any opinions much appreciated looking to replace the rear asap.

Just replace the rear. Its pretty normal in my experience to go through two rear tyres to one front.

But it does depend on the state of the front. If you're worried about it replace both, you want the best grip levels you can at this time of year.

That's true, it was -5 here today. The front seems OK, the rear is just getting a bit too square - too much commuting !

I have a pair of Conti Road Attacks on my SV650 which are approaching the end of their life, and have already purchased a pair of Avon Viper Sports to replace them (fancied giving them a try). My front and rear Conti's will be worn out at approximately the same mileage, but I don't commute on this bike and hardly square the rear at all. So, for me at least, buying a new rear would be a waste of money. By the way, when checking the wear on the front, dont just check it in the middle of the tread but also have a good look about half way around the profile as the front wears most when cornering (and the rear most when upright).

If the front is good then replace the rear to match, they will most likely both need replacing at the same time next time.

Tyres are a personal preference, what I may like others may not, but the best I have found for the SV are Avon Storms.

On sports tyres I get about 2 rears to a front. On touring tyres I wear them about equally. Work out how far you've go to go on the front tyre, if it's got 2mm or so at it's lowest point you'll be replacing it before the rear's worn out anyway.

Thanks for the help. I checked the front and there is some tread left but I don't think there is enough to get another rear out of it, so I've just ordered a pair of storms. Hopefully I'll have plenty of grip now! As said, this time of year I don't want to take any chances!

10k!

You know you're a fat ******* when you get 5k from the same tyre!

I normally switch the pair at the same time as IMO it's not a significant difference in cost as your front will likely wear out in the near future. Generally my fronts are on their way out when the rear is at its end anyway. I can't comment on sports tyres as don't use them.

Again though, how the hell do you get 10K from a tyre? I barely managed 5k from a set of contis when I had them. Anything over 5k I am generally very happy with.

Another thumbs up for Avons from me too, I've got them on my Speed 4 and can't really fault them to be honest.
