Im always on top of stuff like this, really. For the last two months i havent check it once and just did. Its at the lower level mark but i didnt do the start it and let it sit for a couple mins before trying - its totally cold - last used to get to work at 9am.
Will be stopping by halfrauds on the way home for 5l's and a filter! |

Why? You should do the warm up and the sit for 5 mins before checkin with the bike upright, no? Mine always looks low till i do this and then it appears in the middle..

I hate working on cars/bike in the cold, but tonight i really have no choice.
I do at least 300 miles a week so should really have checked this before. *Retarded* |

will try the warm up, maybe this will make me feel a little less stupid or paranoid about my bearings etc

You should warm the bike up for a bit, then switch the engine off and allow the oil to settle and take you measurement from there. The oil level should be measured with the bike level, and off of the side stand and any paddock stands.

+1. As Noob Saibot says, you may well find that when you do this, the level is actually okay. Check it the "proper" way described above before topping up, otherwise you may find you've over-filled it.

I ran out of oil, just about (oil pressure light on) half an hour into a rideout this year.
![]() Only been riding bikes 17yrs though and there is a second time for most things! ![]() ![]() Easy to get lazy if ordinarily your bike does not use a lot of oil between service intervals. |

I know about the importance of the bike being level, just didnt warm up first. Will double check before i replace it all. |
