This morning ( my own stupid fault ) I got pulled by the police for speeding.
I was doing aroung 65 in a 40 outside lane(I know and I won't do it again) on a 3 lane dual carriage way. Sitting in traffic was a police van which I did not spot at all (should of been paying more attention to the road, but might have been checking my mirrors while riding past). Anyways he pulled me over and gave me the usual scrape people up story which thankfully I have only heard twice now in my 9 years riding. I was totally honest with him and agreed I was speeding so got let off a ticket. As he was writing out a producer for me he got a call for another job so I didn't rec that either! I got lucky today and have taken the warning. It's my own stupid fault for speeding anyway but has anyone else got away with a ticket/fine before? |

was well over 90 in a 30 with miles of visability in front of me at 4:30 one summer morning, as I passed a side road I notice plod parked up. out he came, blue lights came on and I stopped.
He hadn't a clue as to my speed apart from "fast". He acknowledged I was a risk to nobody but myself, but I got a "Think On" type warning and sent on my way. Lucky

We were only talking about this in the pub last night.
![]() I consider myself very fortunate when it comes to 'getting away with it' I wont go into specifics here but I got three points for excessive speed on a motorway. It was the stuff I was doing before I got on the motorway that would have got me banned. I got let off with that stuff. Excessive speed was an understatement. More traffic light antics. Let's just say the first thing I saw when I could see behind me in my mirrors again were blue flashing lights. I got a ticking off. And there is also going home from work up the motorway. The throttle was err stuck wide open. All I got was a ticking off again and a comment about how nice my race exhaust sounded as I went passed. |

I got caught doing just over 50 in a 40 limit on the back wheel, only got three speeding points rather than dangerous driving.

I was once doing 60 in a 30 in my old mini. I was racing a Ford Ka with some tasty looking girls in
![]() The Policeman pulled me over and did the usual 'do you know why I pulled you over??' 'Yes' I replied 'And whats the speed limit on this road?' '30' 'And what speed were you doing?' I thought to myself if I lie im going to get caught out and he's guna be angry and throw the book at me so I said '55-60?' The fella looked at me and said 'Oh, well I only clocked you at 40' ![]() ![]() ![]() He gave me a producer. I was in my probationary period also so was scared of losing my licence.

my narrowest squeak was on way back from yeovil on a303, was doing 78 in a 50, mr plod did his lovely trick of pulling off the dual carriageway then coming back on behind me.
pulled me over, invited me into his car. i was hoping to see pic of my on vid!! but no, just got a digital read out. he did as mentioned above gave it the i've seen many bad thing etc etc but he complimented me on my observation (ironic!) mirror and shoulder checks and told me to go on my way carefully. he wasnt patronising in any way, told me straight that if a camera gets me there's no warning, and another 2 mph quicker and i'd have been looking at a potential ban for being 30mph over speed limit |

Looking back on it I've been lucky every time I've ridden my bike. In 30 years I've been nicked 5 times for speeding, and once for jumping a red light when I could see the other side was clear.
We were discussing this on a newsgroup only yesterday, and a mate of mine reckons that on any normal day when I was filtering through traffic on the M1, M25 and M4 on my way to work in Slough a few years back, I commited enough offences within 2 miles to have me banged up in jail for dangerous driving. Dangerous in the eyes of the law maybe, but I thought it was perfectly acceptable riding. Since then I've had a mild stroke and my riding has reined in a fair bit, but I still do things that would make a copper jump for his blue-light and siren switches - things I think are fine, like overtaking on double white lines and 120mph+ on dual carriageways/motorways when it's clear and safe to do so. |
