Default Anyone into R/C Helicopters?

I got a wicked little infa-red helicopter for my secret santa pressie. It's awesome and has given me the bug to go and buy a half decent one. Anyone got any advice of what to get?

I found this link which looks to be good but don't really know anything about them.

Looks brilliant. I'd wait until the deluxe is back in stock for another £30, includes the training kit, another batt and a ally case amongst other stuff

hi Dan

im no expert but my brothers got a few of these (one being a honeybee king 2, similar to the one you have linked to but is 6 channels) can fly upside down the lot!, looks good,
anyways i just had a chat with him and he said, if he was going to advise someone gettin one to start out, he wouldnt recommend an esky one, reason being you can ONLY get parts online,
so if you were to crash (which to be fair is highly likely starting out id imagine!) then its ages untill u can fly again (unless your always stocked up on spares i guess)

he also said best to start with 4 channels, which it looks like you are, as 6 is quite hard to master all at once. and spend as little as possible untill you get the hang of flying and save the cash for spares parts.

he did also say he would recommend this one here http://www.birminghammodelcentre.co....wister-FP.html (he thinks its 4 channel but ud have to check) as its a good starter package, reasonable price, and more importantly widely available spare parts in most model shops.

like i say im no expert so just passing on what he said

HTH

I'm old enough to remember as a kid seeing the IC powered ones of these when they first came out

One day there were 2 in the air at the same time only to have a mid air collision. About 2 grands worth of model chopper came fluttering down.

£74 is much more affordable!

Get a simulator, I have realflight G3 and it's excellent. Very realistic for the planes, especially with a bit of turbulence set. Not so sure about helis but the lads who I used to see at the field used to rave about how good it was.

Damned pricey if you crash though.

i had a twister cp (similar to the honeybee) for my 1st heli, that with a good simulator was brilliant, taught me the basics e.i the hover, circuits ect

i then later on picked up a crashed belt CP and rebuilt it for the more advanced things, then when i got comfortable with that i started to bling it up with parts off a T-rex 450 and upgraded the rotor head and tail rotor parts to metal and all that jaz to make it more sporty so to speak

like YC said you will need a simulator otherwise your going to spend alot of money on replacment parts, i wrote off my 1st heli twice and had to rebuild it

yes im nerd

So is there a simulator freeware that can be downloaded and played with (all be it with keyboard, mouse or playstation remote) that anyone knows about?
