Default Speedo fail

No, not swimming trunks in public.

Riding to work this morning, all was fine, bike running normal, next thing I look down and my speedo's sat at 0mph. It briefly jumped up to about 10mph when I accelerated a bit, but hasn't moved since.

I took a look through some of the old threads, and it seems the most likely cause is going to be the speedo rotor going, or possibly the cable going, or a loose cable connection. Is there anything else that could cause it to just stop working?

Maybe water in the connector that connects the speedo wiring to the main loom? Just a guess

Update: Upon starting the bike coming home from work, the speedo worked again for all of about 20 feet, then stopped. When leaning it over around tight bend, it also jumped back up again to about 30mph, then went back to 0, where it stayed for the rest of the trip home

rotor sounds to be done-you'll probably find the broken tabs are catching now and again thats why it'll work for a bit then once they move it'll stop.

What year bike is it as I may have a spare rotor kicking around.

2002...have just been out and cleaned up all the wiring connections, small amounts of water in there, seems to be working ok now, but won't be able to test it properly till Monday.
