Unhappy No more BigD's?

I've just found out on Facebook - albeit it not the most reliable of sources but hey - that on the 8th February BigD's is shutting down!

Am I just behind with the times, did everyone know this already?

Extract from the group:

Quote:

all those who wish to support big d.s join this group
Lets see if we can get arses through the door and get some money flowing into the tills .
this is one place where we cannot let the credit crunch win
Here's the group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=43785707182

Am guessing it's true as many businesses are suffering badly in this credit crunch, but I still find it difficult to believe

Not that I've ever been there (or to Squires either.. must change that), but haven't the local council / plod put speed cameras up around there? (I'm sure I read it on here somewhere) It'd be a shame for them to spend so much money on putting 'safety' cameras up there, only for the meeting place they surround to close...

Yeah there's a speed camera right next to it now. Lack of funds is what's causing bigD's to close, not the fact a speed camera has been put up next to it, although I doubt it helps matters.

Shame that. Only been a few times but it seems like a nice place.

True. Problem to me when I've been there is that I'd think it would suffer quickly from a lack of parking space compared to places such as Squires come summertime, which is when it really should be busy.

Cheers for the heads up Maria. I've known Rosie for yrs and it saddens me that she will be losing her job, as shes worked for the Owner D for years too, in pubs he owns in HX centre. Its the only place I could feel comfy in breaking down twice on Suzy in front of a car park of bikers, and sit and wait for three hours for the recovery van to take me home. Its a bad spot that Darren picked there for the venue as its packed to the rafters in summer with the show and shine lot, we've had to park down the road at times, but it is on my poorly bike run and I've often hopped literally in there when I've needed a pee and a pot of tea on my way. When ever I go there rosie is straight out to greet me, as usually I make a dogs ass of arriving or leaving and we joke about it, shes even jested about putting a few deer in the car park for me to run in to to make me feel at home!
Sadly t won;t be missed by some of the residents around, but one of them that was campaigning to have it closed, actually bit her own tongue when the bikers all came to help her when she was involved in a crash in her own vehicle with another car a few months back. She was astounded by the unconditional lending of hands by the guys from the pub to get her out of her car!

Yeah, I've only been in a few times, but it's a fantastic little place, so much character, I'm actually quite upset at the thought of it having to close. Went in the day after boxing day, had a lovely hot choc with YC and Jamessunhill, just seems so odd to think it won't be there. I really hope this can be turned round.

Lol, that's a good story. I can imagine as you say that any sort of biker establishment won't be welcomed with open arms by some of the general public but then who gives a crap wha they think. That place does so well in the summer, why should it have to suffer in the winter. Perhaps the fella who owns it could just try out shutting up for the winter months?

Gutted .

I used to go here during the days, as i work nights, very quite during the day but as dizzy said rosie is a top laugh always made you feel welcome.

I remember the first time i went, i had forgot my money and she bought me a brew .

Been a couple of times at nights when i am not working and during the summer it does get very busy, like allready been said, maybe close it during the winter months and reopen for the summer.

What about an .org get together down there before it shuts to show our support.

That's a great idea, I'd have to miss it though.

They are having a do on the 17th of this month. Its an all dayer by the sounds of it, some bands are on, Dj etc. Think its some scooter, bike get together, all welcome as usual. I'm just a bit reluctant to get the bike out TBH, which is part of the reason for darren getting very little trade through their doors at this tme of year....its feckin freezing.
I suppose if more of us lot were to organise a get together down there I may be persuaded to turn up if it were cast in stone....
