Been riding now for over a month and have been getting pins and needles in my hands and forearms. Someone suggested it could be vibrations from the bike as I'm a new rider and will pass with time. Or am I due for a heart attack!

Try some heavier bar ends. Or try gripping the tank with your knees to take the weight off your hands

I guess yo're holding on too tight. Relax your grip, like Darren suggests.
And go see your GP ![]() |

I used to get this when I first passed my test. It's probably caused by you holding on too tight, being tense in your upper body and resting to heavy on your arms.
Try to relax your grip and upper body and grip the tank with your legs more, this should alleviate any undue pressure on your arms. Regards |

Relax, adjust the levers to suit. Braking will feel much easier without a death-grip on the bars!

Could be pressure on the ulnar nerve. A common problem in mountain biking. Specialized do a range of gloves to deal with the problem, there must be an equivalent in motorbike world..... Anyone?

Yeah, grip the tank properly so there's no pressure. Can still happen in throttle hand though, a cruise control tab can help... I just rotated the hot-grip power cord a bit so I can lean on that. Only a factor when doing 100ish for 40-50 minutes though.

IMO its down to the vibrations from the engine coming through the bike into the bars, end of the day you've got a nice 650cc twin with pistons the size of dustins lol, great motor, especialy the sound hmmmm but i guess the comprimise is vibration. Ive got a VFR (750cc v4) and I get pins and needles in my thumbs of all places when im crunching miles on the motorway. Like the rest of the guys say, relaxing your grip on the bars works a treat. But for me the feeling always comes back as soon as im off the motorway and a get to move my hands and fingers again with some twisty roads

Might be a result of this cold weather, I often get pins and needles in my fingers if they get too cold. Bearing in mind I am female though and therefore bad circulation no doubt plays a large part...
The tension in your arms sounds the more likely cause however as the others have said. |

Cheers guys sounds like it could be my tense grip then. Newbie vs winter roads = tight grip I'm afraid!
