I need to service my Honda CBR600RR and was wondering whether you have got any recommendations on which oil I should use.
I am at the 4k service (so technically I dont need to change the oil until 8k) but thought that I would change the oil with every service especially as I do like to give the bike a bit of a thrashing. Realising that I am not made of money my current mode of thinking was that using the cheaper nonbranded semi synthetic stuff and changing the oil every 4k would be better than paying £40 for the branded oil and only changing it every 8k? Do you lot agree? Other questions are - 1. Fully synthetic or semi synthetic? 2. Branded or unbranded (Hein Gerrick do 4L for ~£12 but branded can be around ~£40)? 3. Can you recommend any cheap online shops to buy oil? 4. Would you guys see any benefit in changing the filter at the same time or shall I leave that until 8k? Thoughts on a postcard, Jon PS - tried searching for this but oil is too short for the search

Sorry just reread and realised you were on the cbr. Putoline super DX4 10/40 should do it. (Infact that's what I'm using in the SV because I couldn't be arsed to walk round to the other shop)

I run my GSXR on Semi 10/40. Branded or unbranded you takes your pick, I had to put some oil in my GSXR its got Halfords own brand Semi Synth in it. Without wanting to cause offense, I think you're thinking about this to hard. As for the filter well yep I'd be inclined to change the filter as well as the oil. What does it tell you in your owners manual to put in it ?

Any 10w40 motorcycle oil will suit your CBR, as already said whether branded or not doesn't really make the difference the manufacturers say it does.

If you are already shortening the oil life from 8K to 4K I would leave the filter to 8Ks
£12 for 4l ![]() I hate not having an HG anywhere in the whole of Surrey or London |

HG are overpriced though. I've only ever been in there for their choice of clothing. It's all about supporting the local indie shops. The SV doesn't hold a massive amount fo oil it's definitely worth doing an oil change every 3-4k miles. To get the most benefit out of the new oil it's best to change the filter aswell I think (though you'll never notice the downsides if you skip it)
