ha ha re formatted the hard drive.. sounds like I know what I am on about eh..

but serious nothing else like my cv or banking stuff or personal letters will be in the memory or anywhere will they .?
it still has the disc drive etc and wireless thing and everything except the hard drive so I put it on as spare or repair- its on £40 already - sony vaio.. dunno what it will fetch .. but memory alone is going for 20 notes and screens for £35 and the plastics for 25.. we have to see

just dont want someone accessing my cv etc.. but if i took hard drive out me ok aint i surely.

You is safe, although only way to be 100% is to smash it up, but don't everything is in the hard drive, although even if you've formatted it stuff will still be recoverable.

Our guys put them through a special set of magnets to kill em proper

You can wipe it using specialised software, but it takes so long, either keep or destroy the hdd.

see original post. Quiff has removed the hd and is not selling it. there is ni info anywhere else mate so rest easy. If you are really concerned put a hammer through the hd before binning it.

the only real method for securely disposing of a hard disk is destruction, an angle grinder works well.

For a new disk its worth enabling full disk encryption, something like Bitlocker as supplied with Win Vista or Win 7, or user data encryption on Mac OS. When it comes to machine disposal you simply erase the decryption keys permanently rendering the remaining data useless to all but the most sophisticated of discovery techniques.

Bitlocker in Win 7 also allows you to do this with USB flash drives etc, very handy to protect against loss.
