Hi All
Had a bit of an eventful morning yesterday. Riding along quite happy on my way to work and suddenly the rev counter went ballistic but I was slowing down. Coasted in to the side of the road, chain gone! Found the chain back down the road and one of the links has snapped. Can't see any obvious damage anywhere else but is there anything I should be checking for? |

Bad chain maintainence? Other than that, over tight, too loose, all stuff that you cant check once snapped.
Oh, you mean damage after it had happened? Not sure really. Just be lucky it didnt end in a horrible mess. |

Remove the plastic sprocket cover and check the clutch worm gear and actuating rod,and make sure it didnt damage the engine cases when it flew off. That and any obvious damage to swingarm and rear wheel.

Looked at the chain and it looks spotless so I'm a bit confused as to why. Really thinking anything I need to check now though, would the chain have damaged anything else on the bike? |

Would any damage to clutch worm gear and actuating rod be easy to see or is there some sort of test I can do? |

It should be obvious if the chain has hit something around the front sprocket area. You may well need to clean the muck away to see it though.

i'm sure this wont be new info, but it seems worth saying... when you adjust your chain tension, you need to be sat on the bike. Yes, this is physically impossible, but my point is that you may adjust it correctly when off the bike, but realistically the chain is too tight when in use.
i know that my chain seems too slack upon inspection, but when sat on it, it seems to come within the 1-2 inch guide. (that may be wrong, is it 1-2 inch?) |
