Default New Helmet - Rain on visor

My new AVG Airtech helmet had it's maiden voyage in the rain today.

I was less than impressed with the rain clearance on the visor.

My old helmet was a Shark, a swift wipe with a leather glove cleared it no probs... but this AVG one just smeared the water leaving blurry patches. I had to pull over and give it a good wipe!

Is this due to it being new?

Will Rainex or something similar do any harm to the visor?

There are a multitude of products that will bead water of a visor. Check out your local bike shop.
I cannot offer anything specific. For the past couple of years I have been using stuff (rain-off) that was intended for windshields, not visors and would not guarantee that it won't stuff some visors although it works fine on mine.

Cheers

Ride faster, the increased wind pressure will push the water off no problem.

Polish water repellent onto the outside of the visor, does the trick for me.

cheers, it does say in the handbook not to use any other products than warm soapy water... so i didn't want to stuff it.

I appreciate this is a really odd thread, but realistically, it is pretty dangerous! It did the same thing this morning... i will look into some 'rain-off'. i have some glass cleaner, maybe that would work? we'll see....

As I said the rain-off is for car windshields. Don't go putting window cleaner on a visor. That is almost guaranteed to wreck it.

Cheers

Rainex is the Uk equivalent. Give the visor a good clean with warm soapy water tonight, it could be it has a compund form manufacturing still on it hence the poor water clearence.

I use a product i use on photocopier glass. Its brilliant. A flick of the head left and right above 20mph and clear visor.
