hi new to all this kinda stuff but i am stuck like got my bike mid jan had always been kept inside til i got it as i cant keep her dry but the guys before me had never ridden her in the wet now i drive all weather n was wonderin if this could have done something to my gears as now it dont seem to go down first few gear changes are nice clean n smooth but after a bit seems to not go down gears which is ok wen i get stuck in 2nd but sometimes its 3rd n its hard gettin away fast n smooth away form the cars drivers n wit havin the girlfriend on the back she falls out with me cause it aint smooth. has anyone got anything for me to check or try cause i am at a loss wit it n now i dont enjoy going out on the SV

It'd help if you told us a bit more about your bike.
I.e what year it is, how many miles its done, when it was last serviced etc etc...

When posting please try to be as clear and as concise as possible. There's a thread as a sticky at the top of this section of the forum asking information to be laid out in a way that helps us understand the best way to help you.
From the above I'm imagining that: The bike is 2nd hand, and the gear lever itself has become stiff, meaning that the bike won't change gears properly, rather than that the gear change action feels too slack. I would guess that the gear lever has not got any grease left on it, and where it pivots (depending on year this may be on the foot-peg, or on a seperate pivot point) This means it's not smoothly returning to the middle position after each change, which will stop you being able to engage the next gear. If this is the fault then fixing it is simply a matter of removing the footpeg, and the gear lever and cleaing, greasing and re-assembling Jambo

bike is 2000 just over 17000miles i have not serviced it yet n the guy before me never told me but he worked in perth motorcycle shop so guessin he would do all that kinda stuff himself. How easy is it to take the footpeg bit off?
soz about not tellin this stuff first time round not sure how this thing works |
