Default New Member Needs Help

Hi, i am a new member looking for some help.

I have just bought today a crash damaged 53 plate K3. My intention is to rebuild it for my wife. This is the first SV we have had so i know nothing about the interchangebility of parts between the older and newer models to fit the K3. I am hoping to get your advice.

Part list i can see so far before strip is!!
  • Fuel Tank
  • Generator Casing
  • Sprocket cover
  • Oil cooler
  • Rear Sub frame
  • Fairing and frame work Etc.
My intention is to street fighter it for her so i need to swap all the drop handle bars to up right bars. I have seen SV's with stright bars on but i am not sure if top yoke is standard our a modifoed modified unit can you advise.

I will probably be asking a lot more through the couse of the rebuild so i appologise in advance for all the questions. Any advice you can help me with will be greatly appreciated.

I will post picture before and during the rebuild so you can see the ongoing project. If the SV turns out to be as good a bike as i have been told, (hence my decision to purchase an SV) I look forward to its completion and test ride.

Alreet waders.
If the K3 is of the fuel injection variety, only those parts will fit, AFAIK. Also there should be someone with a K3 along shortly to point you in a better direction.
IIRC the K3 was different to the following years too. Sorry I can;t be of much help. Perhaps putting a post in the wanted section for the parts you want would be a place to start, theres always a nice member floggin something here that you need!

ps where are you from?

  • Rear Sub frame Any.
  • Fairing and frame work Etc. Don't need it! But it is mostly compatible from all the pointy years (03>)

If you are doing the right thing and streetfightering it, then why do you need "fairing and frame work etc" ?

There are 2 types of SV, the SV650 and the SV650S. You have SV650S with the fairing. You can swap the yokes, clutch cable etc from the SV650 (naked bike) and this will give you sufficient slack in cable, and mounting points for bar risers... the speedo... etc.

Yes, my mistake it is different.

I believe the late subframe will fit the K3 main frame. No idea what else is different (undertray etc etc)

I will have a spare but working K3 grand candy blue fuel tank in the coming months. It is dented and a bit rusty but it works and has worked for the last 2 years on my bike. Are you after pristine parts or just any cheap parts to get it running again?
