Default Interesting Battery Problem.... I think

I'm a newbie and i had a look at several other problems on the forum with batteries and charging but none answered my problem. My bike is an 02 with a scott oiler and altered rear suspension.

When i first took the bike for a test ride it was dandy. Rode it home happy and found that the battery was completely dead afterwards (just over 50miles). Decided it needed a new battery and put a new one in, but the problem persisted; riding the bike actually slowly drains the battery.

My mate (little bit of a mechanic) tested the alternator and the rectifier. The alternator gave a very large output - no problem there - and he replaced the rectifier. Still the same problem.

I ride the bike daily and only locally and have to trickle charge over night other wise the battery will die whilst i'm out and about the next day.
ps the battery never dies while running, it just wont re-start.

Help please.

You need to get those readings again. They are what will diagnose the problem which could be several things. If you do a search on here for testing charging system you will find lots of stuff.

Hmm, to me that sounds like the reg/rec still. When mine went, it actually took me to replace it with 2 reg/recs, if this is the case, get a CBR600F Reg/Rec, they are seen as an upgrade as they don't fail on SV's as early.

Get your meter back on it, 3500 revs and what reading are you getting?

The battery isn't getting charged properly, and the alternator is outputting at least somewhere in the right region (I'm assuming).

If the alternator is fine, but there's no power charging the battery, then the reg/rec is the suspect.

As above, test it again. What are the specific values you're finding? It could be that the alternator is putting out too much power, and that's killing your reg/recs.

It could also be a faulty reg/rec that you put in, or at least one on it's last legs.

Not heard that before, there isn't really any way for them to go wrong and increase output as it's permanent magnet type.

+1 about the dodgy reg-rec.

Check all the reg/rect connections are good, a duff wire could cause them to self-destruct
