I noticed the other day that the power LED was not illuminated on the Oxford Oximiser battery charger, so just been out and checked it.
The charge LEDs are lit through back powering from the battery, I checked the fuse :- OK, so ignored the warranty void stickers and undone the lid. The main circuit board is charred a couple of unidentified components are burnt to a crisp. damm I hate to think what could have happened if it had fried properly and attempted to put 240v ac into my battery. This is my second Oxford one to go south on me in the past 2 years. Guess it is time to bite the bullet and buy a proper Optimate one Edit, just bought one. I have now decided that all oxford stuff is probably rubbish. I had some of their throw over panniers with clear plastic rain covers that simply exploded when the wind got under them.

How much did you pay for the optimiser?

You've got me worried now Tim, mine's hooked up to an Oximiser at the moment, used it for the past couple of winters with no problems though...

I have a maximiser attached to my SV and my brother called yesterday to say the bike hadnt been charging. I havent been there yet, but my first guess would be that the unit had been unplugged and back again, but the maximiser was not properly set again (fingers crossed)
My brother has taken out a couple of fuses, disconnected the Datatool until I can get there until Saturday. I hope it hasnt blown circuits, I might have to get a replacement and charge Oxford for a new battery too! |

I've never been impressed by the oxford stuff, while I own a set of the first time luggage I bought it cos it was really really cheap, and it works fine for what I use it for. I've got an el-cheapo charger for a car and an ancient bench power supply with both current and voltage limiting that gets pressed into service once in a while too (better for smaller batteries since the current limit is lower than the 4A car one).
