Default Brake Overhaul

Hi All,

I'm having what is probably one of the more common issues at the moment, in that i put my K2 SV in the garage about a month ago and when I came to get it out for a ride the other day my Brake Callipers / Pistons have seized up.

I'm planning to use the sticking callipers as an excuse for a brake overhaul, but I kind of need to get the bike working for this weekend if I can, so in the meantime does anyone know of any reasonably easy fixes to release the calipers so I can get bike moving again?

Many thanks,

Paul

If they won't budge at all it's time to strip them down but you might get away with cleaning the muck off the pistons.

Remove the calipers from the mounts and begin to work out the pistons (after removing the pads). Do this on both sides so the pistons are close to coming out.
Don't rush it as you don't want to break the fluid seal and loose all your brake fluid all over your bike.
Give the pistons a good gental clean all the way around with some brake cleaner and maybe a toothbrush DO NOT USE ANYTHING ABRASIVE ON THE PISTONS.

Push them back in level and slowly and they should do until you have to strip them right down.

If your doing this tho it might be worth taking them right out and cleaning behind the seals etc?
