i have a 02 sv650s with 05 gsxr forks, i brought it to a mechanic to have the fork seals replaced and afterwards the mechanic says he cant get the speedometer to work (the speedometer was working fine before, although it would under estimate the speed by ~5mph (eg. im going 50, but the speedo would say i am going 45)).
he claims that the speedo cable was originally attached to nothing (doubt it). and insists there is no plug for the speedo cable on the forks. i did some research, but im still at a lost. is there a possible plug around the front end where the plug could have gone. the speedo worked before (i swear!) but does not now. i was thinking the original owner put in a gsxr speed sensor, but where exactly can i find it, maybe i missed it earlier? thanks in advance ![]() |

The most common way a gsxr speedo is wired to an sv is through a hall sensor and magnets as sensors somewhere on the front wheel or disc brake. The mecahnic should have an idea as to what one is. As for him saying the wire goes nowhere unless the sensors fell off it should still be there. I expect the sensors been moved with the work you've had done, it only has to be out abit too far for it not to pick up the magnets. Have a look and see if you can trace the sensor then you might be able to find your problem.

Heres my thread here from when i changed my front end on my SV, the page has a pic of the hall sensor. It could also work off the rear disc so don't forget to look there.. If you go a few pages back on my thread then you'll see a few pics of the magnets placed in the rivets of the front disc!! Hope this helps!!! The first thing i would check is that the sensor is close enough to pick-up the magnets, all depends on their strength. If the sensor is too close it'll read too high or not at all, and too far away it might not work at all. I had mine about 4-5mm i think away from the sensor and this worked a treat!!!
Anyway heres my thread http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=103758&page=15
