Default Would it damage the bike to have NO can?

I doubt it will make mine louder, just thought it might be a laugh

be alright to start up, but I have heard it could do damage if ridden

Yes!
When you're on your third ASBO, the scrotes will come along & crush it.
Then all you'll hear is the rust falling off it.

i have taken my can off before and riden it ... its slower but i dont see or hear any damage

Won't it run richer? Or leaner? Or somewhere inbeetweener? Which may cause damage after a few miles, but possibly only after lots.
