There seems to be a lot of movement in my floating disks, like a mil or something. When you apply the brake (with the engine off just pushing it) you can hear them knocking. Is this er normal?
Cheers org! ![]()

You sure i's the discs & not the pads in the calipers?
Or even your knees? - the SV's a heavy mutha to shift.

![]() It could be the pads, but they're new on on friday and I'm still getting the same noise. And I'm pretty sure iirc when I jacked up the front wheel and move the floating disk side to side I got a similar knocking noise. There's definitely more movement than I expected though.

Sounds like your rivets have popped, they're the small discs that hold the two bits together. It means new discs I'm affraid for safety really you wouldn't want them to give up on you while your riding.

bloody bike.
How much are new disks going to set me back? I think it's just one that's doing it would it be stupid to just replace one disk?

20K and I am already on my 2nd set of discs. EBC road jobbies. One OE disc "dished" ie looked like a plate. Does not feel like there is anything wrong until you notice it eats pads in half the time with really uneven wear.
Now I think one of the EBC's has warped! Not far off £400 if I remember. Not as good initial wet performance as OE either! ![]() |

Before you bin them, can you post some photos?
Most brakes knock (clonk) if you put them on whilst pushing the bike. Its usually the pads coming up against their stop. I've had bikes in the past with more than 1mm disc movement that was completely normal (admittedly not a Suzuki) It may jusy be the shims that keep the disks centralised weakening. Do they return to the centre when you let them go? Do all of the rivets look the same (on both sides)? C Last edited by Berlin; 30-03-09 at 10:12 AM. |
