Unhappy Not quite knee down.

....but I just **** myself!

Anyone that's ridden with me or spoke to pillions know I'm a very slow tootler, I don't hang off the bike at all I just lean and get on with it and try to preserve my life. Well I've just been out for a quick few laps before the sun set and my toe scraped twice . Almost jumped out my skin.
Is it that bad? Should I be sticking my knee out like a loon so that hits first? Or not leaning the bike as much?

....

Also took out a swarm of flies Knew I shouldn't have bothered cleaning my visor the other day. Doesn;t help I look like a big sun flower and probably stink like ****.

(probably doesn't help my riding, that paper visor insert)

If you are'nt ride with the balls of your feet on the pegs rather than the instep, that way when you have the bike lent over you wont scrape your toes.

Ahh that not a bad thing! Theres little metal bits on the footpegs that mark how far you can lean. If you scrape them down too much then youve ran out of rubber.

thats not a swarm...try riding in Scotland - you get more flies on your visor riding pillion than that! *chuckle*

Well done on the lean though!

I dont agree...

I've been right out the edge of my rear tyre and still not scraped my pegs on my GSXR. No chicken stripe at all on either side.

I've scraped the hero blobs on the pegs of my SV and still had a bit of chicken strip left on the rear tyre.

I ride with the joint/ball about 5cm back from the ends of by toes on the peg.

This is what I can't work out whether it's my positioning. I'm sure my feet are right, but I don't hang off the bike at all and would have thought knee came first.

Hmmm chicken strips might be the key here I'm not definitely not riding to the edge...but I thought my feet were in the right position too.

I knew what it was straight away because my whole foot vibrated and I could hear it so loud (was testing my baffle) but I still shat myself. Second time I jumped a bit.

well your feet sound like they are in the right place, but without seeing your riding position its hard to tell.

I've scraped toes and pegs, it just is lean angle or the camber of the road as well can reduce the ground clearance you have if its steep enough, theres a roundabout near my house thats quite cambered and I've scraped my pegs on that before. Also theres a sequence of bends on one of my favourite roads that I scraped my toe sliders on before which is steeply cambered

Your knee wont touch down unless you position your body in such a way to let it touch down, i.e. you hang off the bike.

If your knee touches down when your not hanging off, your probably about to crash or are already crashing

Now you know what to expect it wont be such a shock next time you do it.
