Default Housemate fun (again) don't read unless you need to kill time :P

I am currently sat here ignoring my housemate (yes the very same messy scruffbag some of you may remember from a previous thread...) ringing the doorbell. He lost his door key 3 weeks ago and is refusing to pay a whole £2.50 to get another one cut.

I opened the door to him yesterday and told him he needs to sort it out, fed up of him ringing the bell at stupid hours in the morning etc. (some of us are writing dissertations and don't like waking up at ungodly hours funnily enough).

He tells me the landlady is away abroad.
I tell him to go get a key cut.
He tells me he has no money. No money. Not even a couple of quid.
He THEN tells me either I give him the money to pay for it or I carry on opening the door.
To which I just walk up to my room without another word. Fuming.

Now I know I sound mega-stingy but I honestly don't see why I should give him money - which I know I won't get back - for something he could have sorted out weeks ago when a) his gf was here and b) he did have cash cos he was out drinking...

As I understand it, as long as people open the door to him he won't do anything. He does have a few friends here to lend money off of.. I think but I'm damned if I'm spoonfeeding him.
So 20 mins later he's ringing the bell still (not all the time just every 10 mins when I think he's gone away lol!)

Honest question: Am I a horrible horrible person for not letting him in? Or am I subconsciously punishing him for the mess he's left in the kitchen...ahem...

EDIT: d'oh! Someone let him in

I just put this up to give you something to read really. And something for me to type that's not dissertation-based lol! Sorry if you've got this far, clearly you're bored out your brain

No, he's being a c-nut and you're perfectly justified in your actions.

No he's being a tw*t. He's also behaving like a child so you have every right to treat him like one till he grows up.

Ah, so you snore eh?

I'd of done the same. If he has a habit of sleeping in during the day, let me know. I'll pop down sometime & bounce the SV off the rev limiter for you.

I think you're quite right, I was in a similar situation a few years back at uni - the person wouldn't go an organise a key despite coming in regularly at 2 or 3am. Being woken up in the middle of the night when lectures started at 9am and I needed to be concentrating was no good so we stopped answering the door. He quickly got the idea and organised another key.

Lol, YC loves doing that but unfortunately the prat's usually up early (rather unusually), that's when his boom-boom crappy music kicks in...but ANYWAY on topic

Oh and I don't snore but I have been known to growl a little lol

[dunce mode]How do I disconnect the doorbell? Can it be easily connected again?[/dunce mode]

We have a doorbell on each floor, the one above me just vibrates loudly without emitting sound.
