Current 2.0 version - does anyone know whether it has a cam chain or belt, and how often it should be changed. I've searched all over the shop, but I'm buggered if I can find an answer anywhere!

Well the old one had a belt, so i would imagine that the new one has also. As for intervals, again, the old 1.6 was every 50k i believe!

That's what I'd seen, but then most of their other engines, especially the VVT ones haev moved to a chain! Can't even seem to get a definitive answer from Suzuki forums!

That chart says G16 engine only, that'll be a 1.6L won't it?

actually you're right, but it matters not as the service manual for the SQ420WD is the same

Bit of further digging tells me that it is actually a J20 engine in the 2006 model (current shape car). The Suzuki service manual for this engine makes no reference to Camshaft Timing Belt, only the Accessory Drive Belt, which appears to operate the water pump. Reading a bit further down in section 1D-86, it shows how to inspect the cam chain, so I am assuming here that this would not routinely need inspecting.
http://newgrandvitara.net/FAQ/Servic...araSMpart1.pdf Would people agree with me on that one? (Rictus!)
