Default Maxxis Tyres

Anbody tried Maxxis Supermaxx tyres yet? they get good reviews in some mags, but most people seem wary of trying them because they're not a brand name

They're a massive brand in the BMX and Mountain bike industry but not sure on the engine powered steed.

I use Maxxis on my mountain bike and in the supermoto world the Maxxis tyres are very highly rated , they may be a tad soft if anything for hooning about though mate . I can kill half a tyre in one aggresive circuit in North Wales , and I`ve seen the Maxxis tyres spitting rubber off at great rates in a Supermoto race .

Their supersports tyre is as good as most sports touring tyres of 5 years ago, kinda like a BT020.

i have one on the rear of my ZZR600, and it killed it in about 4500 miles of reasonable spirited riding mixed with a bit of motorways. for the price though you can't really complaine!

Im Indoors has Maxxis on his Vraptor. it came with them. I'd never heard of em, but they've lasted a fair few miles on it for a tyre munching bike. Went over to France and back on them and all over the place over here. never heard him complain about em TBh

A guy off another site has been testing these and recons they provide exceptional grip. Theyre more akin to BT14's than 21's, but have a much softer compound so probably wont last quite as long.

Am having some fitted on Friday at £150 a pair, sounds like a really good tyre at an unbeatable price

I'd be interested to know what the wet weather grip is like. I've tried Maxxis tyres on smaller bikes, and only one (Maxxis Barracuda) was anything like acceptable in rainy conditions. Those Barracudas were exceptional though, far better than anything I'd ever fitted to any bike - they gripped as well in the rain than most tyres did in the dry. The rest of the Maxxis range I tried at about the same time was absolute pants whenever there was the slightest hint of damp on the road. I used to work for the Maxxis importers as a rep, so got to try a few of the products.

These tyres are apparently aimed at the fast road and trackday rider, the roadtest reports Ive read show they have been giving good wet and cold weather performance. Am getting some fitted on Friday then off on the NW3.5 over the w/e, so should be able to give you some feedback next week (although Im hoping not to test the wet capability over the w/e!)

going on a 500 mile trip up from the south of France to Calais was torrential rain, I'd say that the Maxxis on the Raptor faired well......Im Indoors is still here and they are still on the bike for now, he's never said that they were pants in the rain.
