Default Restriction questions.

Hello,

Some of you might well have heard this question a few times before, but i need to get an answer as quickly and as accurately as possible

I may be buying a K3 pointy SV650. I went into the garage (where it was for sale) and had a chat with the sales chap. He explained that it would cost me £160 for some sort of throttle restriction (type F or K maybe?) and then another £250 for fitting/labour costs. This has to be taking the p**s?

As i understand (and my understanding isn't great...) i could buy an ECU to restrict it to 33bhp, then get it Dyno'd and use the spec sheet as proof of restriction...

A sort of 'Here Mr Officer, its restricted, check out the paper work...' job.

So...

whats the REAL deal?

1. will my insurance company want a proper DVLA restriction certificate etc.
2. will i be legal?
3. what are the real prices?
4. whos done what, and has it worked?

I know there are a few questions and my post is long, but I really would appreciate any help you guys could give me.

Thankyou in advance,
Ben.

yeh thats a major rip off, mine cost me £150 all together for restriction but mine was a throttle stop rather than the ecu, but ive seen those 33bhp ecu boxes go on ebay for less than £50 and then u can put it in urself cuz its jus a matter of taking off the front seat, unplugging the old 1 n putin the restricted one in!

The only thing ive got to show that mine is restricted is the dyno chart, but this year my insurance company didnt even ask to see it!

1) I wasn't asked, and I don't know anyone that was. I have no proof that my bike is restricted.
2) With a 33bhp restriction fitted, yes you will be legal
3) Around £50 second hand on the org for a ecu.
4) Had the throttle restriction + airbox washers, then changed to the ecu.
Would say ecu is more economic, but not sure tbh.
Not much difference I noticed in peformance,as they are supposed to both be 33bhp.

Where are you buynig it from???

I have the FI kit, 200 fitted it was.

Get the ECU if you can though. It is litterally a case of changing over the ECU.

1. will my insurance company want a proper DVLA restriction certificate etc. i didnt get asked for it, but its always good to have the cert.
2. will i be legal? Yes as long as the restrictions in.
3. what are the real prices? Depends which one you get, genuine ECU fitted from Suzuki is about £300, one of ebay and do it yourself about 50, or the FI kit about £200.
4. whos done what, and has it worked? FI kit, yes it works fine, bikes good to 105, but i would get the ECU if you can.

A Honda dealership!

I certainly wont be getting it done there, i'll look into the ECU option. I don't really want there to be any issues with the insurance companies... are they mostly cool doing it this way?

Ben.

the FI kit basically lmiits the amount of air into the engine i think. Some people have had problems with it.

What Honda dealership, the one on Wallisdown Road, if you take it to Motorcycle Trade-Ins on the Elliot Road industrial estate i would imagine they would do the paperwork (your cert of restriction) and the restrictor + labour for £200. Thats how much mine cost.

Yeah, its where the bike is for sale too. ECU seems like best bet if i can find one for a bit cheaper.
