Hi Guys.
Just replaced or tried to replace chain sprockets pre Oulton Park Tuesday. Original gearing was 15/45, changed from 15/44 by Tim in Yorkshire (Prolific poster on here) Got nice new chain and sprockets 15/45 108 link chain Tsubaki chain. Removed chain and sprocks, fit sprocks, joined chain Marvellous upto this point. Aaaarghhh Chain miles too short. Counted links 108 links Counted old chain links 116 Its a Y reg SV650S, looks to me like chain needs to be 112 links, perhaps 114. Counted sprocket teeth etc defo before and after 15/45 Haynes manual says 108 links on 15/44 chain. Its so far short, its impossible to get the chain on the rear sprocket even with the wheel fully forward. Any ideas ? Anyone seen this before, I'm off to the bloody pub to drown my sorrows and try and source a new chain and fit it before 1pm tomorrow. Middlesbrough. Its been an utterly cack weekend, and this is just truly wonderful, everything I needed. Violin players welcome to post, suppliers of mood enhancing pills also. Bobby "No oulton" Bobbleton ![]() |

Pretty sure it's 110 links for the SVs. I'll go to the garage and check the box, as I've just changed mine.

Hey! Bob - we met months ago when Tim was playing at Croft.
Have you counted the teeth on the sprockets? Silly, but... summats up You don't need me to tell you that! Did my ( naked ) chain a month ago with Berlin's help - he did all the work & it all worked OK What you've got is an S chain on Naked sprockets & as you've found it won't fit. Best of luck with sorting it in the morning & if you want to hire a naked bike, give me a PM

Will the spindle go anywhere near the hole if you put the chain around the sprocket before putting spindle in?
TBH I don't think mine will come off just with adjusters moved forward.

You might want to do a deal with someone on the forum running standard 'S' gearing, who needs a C&S set soon. Get them to order a chain at 112 or 114 links, and do a swap.

Yes, we made it, many thanks to Revin Kevin, the grass running KTM maniac for fitting the chain...................
Problem resolved. Oulton very nice, youtube to follow ! You can replace that crappy mountain bike with a nice 08 blade. The SV can take a rest and stay at home, coming out again at Croft in June. Will do the morning on the SV and afternoon on the blade. SV performed well, except when getting a neutral at end of pit straight and before last corner........ Bob "Rat Bike" Bobbleton |
