I have succesfully managed to strip the internal thread of the sump casing when tightening up the drain plug during an oil change.
I was going to have a go at repairing with a 'heli-coil' ? 1 - Is this the best way to go about fixing it? 2 - If so what size kit do I need to get? And yes I know I am a numpty for overtightening. ![]()

well done blue...
you would be better off getting a different (bigger thread) sump plug and tapping out the sump... its a bit more fiddly but its the best bet... i think i have some big taps in the workshop i'll check next week.. anyone know what size the sump plug is on a pointy? |

14mm socket will probably be a 10mm thread metric. 7/16" tap if you can get one with a 7/16" thread bolt.

I have discovered from the manual it's an M12.
Just nbeed the pitch size or does that matter as long as I get a drain plug to suit the pitch?

plug will need to marry up with the thread inside the coil or tapped out thread.

that is unless you really want the magnetic bit on it... you could try halfords.. they do a nice range of sump plugs.. i'm sure we have some 13mm bits in the workshop... |

If it were mine I would rather do it properly with a replacement sump plug with the fine pitch. Helicoil is not a hard job.

I think that's what I would prefer to do but I cannot for the life of me find anywhere on line that tells me the pitch size.
Helicoil kits for M12 seem to come in pitch sizes of 1.0, 1.25, 1.50, and 1.75 mm so I am stumped for now.
